Artillery Memorial, Canberra

After a very busy few months including the birth of my first child I am back and revisiting my stash of photos from around Australia.

Apologies to those followers that have missed me! Whilst I aim to post as often as I can 'daily' may not be acheivable but we'll see.

The view over Canberra from here is very good and you can really get an appreciation of the straight line designs of the City.

Anchor, Great Ocean Road

This is an old relic from a time gone by still led on 'Wreck Beach' as a memorial. This sort of Man meets nature stuff has always fascinated me.

Shipwreck - Fraser Island

Hi All,

I am back, sorry for the huge gap in posts.
Today I want to share the very cool shipwreck on Fraser Island in Queensland. Fraser is the largest sand island in the world and claimed this ship a very long time ago.

Night Light - Paronella Park

This is the strange and wonderful Paronella Park. It was made completely from concrete by an eccentric Spaniard for his wife. Look up the story online for the low down - an amazing tale!

Bum Burners in Hahndorf - German Village

When we saw this we just laughed out loud. Hahndorf is not far from Adelaide and is a German style town. Sausages are a popular delicacy.

The Bunngle Bungles

This amazing plave was amazingly only discovered in the 1980's. Truly unbelievable. Now the Bungle Bungles or Purnululu National Park is a world renowned national park. The drive here is strictly only 4x4 and pretty rough. Well worth it though.

Shame we had a cloudy day.

Through the Window - Old Parliament House, Canberra

In Canberra everything has been designed in a particular way for a particular reason. This is a view of Old Parliament House from new Parliament House down the avenue with 'New Houses' fountain. Very clever...

Tram in Melbourne

Uluru Climb

This interesting shot was taken after I made the momentus climb to the top of Uluru (Ayers Rock) The small things you can see on the ground are cars and campers! I felt like I was up as high as a plane. The climb is VERY steep and tiring - it should not be attempted by the nervous or unfit.

Byron Bay Lighthouse

Byron Bay is the Easterly most point of the Australian Mainland and is a very popular stop for travellers between Brisbane and Sydney. This lighthouse was built in 1901 and is a famous landmark.

Fencing - Old Laura Homestead, Lakefield NP

An abstract shot of the fence that surrounds Old Laura homestead in Lakefield National Park, Far North Queensland. The Homestead is made from corrugated iron and is empty aside from those that choose to visit Cape York in the dry season.

Richmond Bridge - Tasmania

This is the oldest remaining bridge in Australia. It is Richmond Bridge over the Coal River in Tasmania. Richmond is a wonderful little town and nowhere reminded me more of home in the Cotswolds (UK) than here.

Isolation - Outback House, Silverton

I love this photo because it depicts a sense of nothing but this house.

This little house is actually in Silverton, Outback New South Wales, not far from the Silverton Pub.
Mad Max was filmed out here and the scenery is amazing. I love the outback!

Lake Eyre

Lake Eyre is in South Australia and the access point we used to get out to it was off the Oodnadatta track. This lake is so big that we went with the hope of seeing water as it was flooding for one of the only times this century, but it was bone dry where we were (The water hadn't flowed down yet!) Apparently you needed a plane to see the water.

Lake Ekye is the sight of the land speed record on July 17th 1964 where Sir Donald Campbell and the Bluebird reached well over 400mph (650 kmh). For me the lasting memory of this place is the vast emptiness and the sky going on forever... oh and the flies!! - Needed to wear a head net to keep them at bay!

Parliament of Victoria - Melbourne

This Grand old building sits in Spring Street on the outskirts of Melbourne's city centre. The building was started in 1855 and was completed in stages in 1929. We liked Melbourne a lot and I think the thing that stood out the most was the history and old buildings that are still prominent there.

Bramwell Station - Cape York

Cape York is a Mecca for 4x4 owners, they come to test their driving skills and their vehicle. Our trip around Oz was in a 4x4 and we thoroughly enjoyed the Cape. I am sure there will be plenty of images from here as the blog continues on.

This image is from Bramwell Station at the beginning of the "Old Telegraph Track". This track is what 4wders come to challenge themselves and their cars against. We spent the night before our trek here at bramwell with friends enjoying what would be our last shower for a while! Great camp spot.

Devils Marbles - Northern Territory

These fascinating stones are truly in the middle of nowhere - near dead centre of the Northern Territory. They are formed by thousands of years of erosion. The land out here is so flat and the wind has shaped them all individually. We stopped here on the way to Alice Springs and had some fun pretending to push these giant rocks over for the camera.

4x4 Track in Francois Peron National Park

This red road is the track that runs through Francois Peron National Park to the coast. It is a beautiful place and I wish we had had more time there when we visited. The red soil is amazing and this road was so much fun to drive. Going along at 50 km/h in soft sand... Brilliant!

Beach Huts on Brighton Beach - Melbourne

This image of colourful 'Bathing Boxes' was taken on Brighton Beach in Melbourne. Despite being no more than a shed these will set you back A$200,000! There are 82 of these in total and the chance to buy does not come along very often. They are also a great tourist attraction.
